Celebrating Young Creativity: Get in the Spirit Competition Winners Visit Vulcan XH558
This year, The Work-wise Foundation was proud to partner with the Vulcan to the Sky Trust to launch an exciting and inspiring competition, Get in the Spirit. Designed to ignite creativity and a passion for aviation history, this competition offered both Primary and Secondary School students the chance to showcase their talents and imagination. With the Vulcan XH558 as their inspiration, young minds were challenged to create captivating entries across two categories.
For Primary school students, the mission was to create a Vulcan Superhero, while Secondary school students explored the art of storytelling by submitting Graphic Stories and Short Films that showcased their creativity and passion for aviation.
After reviewing an impressive number of entries, we were thrilled to announce our winners: including two from Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School and one from Campsmount Academy. Each student demonstrated exceptional imagination and skill, standing out among a competitive pool of participants. Their prize, a visit to see Vulcan XH558 for themselves and their classmates.
The Winners’ Day at Vulcan XH558: A Unique Learning Experience
On Thursday 19th September 2024, our winners embarked on an unforgettable experience. The day started with a special visit to the legendary Vulcan XH558, a symbol of British aerospace engineering and history. The iconic aircraft, which served as a major part of Britain’s nuclear deterrent during the Cold War, was the perfect backdrop for a day of inspiration and learning.
The students took part in a series of flight-inspired workshops, offering hands-on experiences that connected their creative entries with real-world applications in aviation. From learning about the engineering marvels of the Vulcan to engaging in activities that explored flight dynamics, aerodynamics, and aviation history, the day was packed with excitement.
Through these workshops, the winners were able to deepen their understanding of the Vulcan's remarkable legacy while also exploring future possibilities in aviation, science, and engineering.
Celebrating Creativity and Innovation
At the heart of this competition was the desire to spark curiosity in students about flight and to encourage them to think outside the box. The Vulcan Superhero creations from our Hatfield Woodhouse Primary school winners were nothing short of impressive—combining elements of aerospace technology with their vivid imaginations to craft unique characters inspired by the Vulcan.
Meanwhile, the winning student from Campsmount Academy impressed with their innovative Graphic Story.
Fostering Future Generations of Creators and Innovators
The Get in the Spirit competition, in collaboration with The Vulcan to the Sky Trust, reflects The Work-wise Foundation’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting opportunities for students to engage in creative learning experiences outside of the classroom. By connecting students with the iconic Vulcan XH558, we hope to inspire a new generation of engineers, scientists, and storytellers.
A huge congratulations to our talented winners from Hatfield Woodhouse Primary and Campsmount Academy! Their hard work and creativity have earned them, and their friends, a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we are certain that this is just the beginning of their journey into the world of innovation and creativity.
It was also great to have a visit from Lee Pitcher MP on day!
Stay tuned for more exciting initiatives from The Work-wise Foundation as we continue to create opportunities that encourage young minds to dream big!
