Get up to Speed with Employability

Introducing Careers

A Full day event designed for a whole school or targeted Year Groups modelled on a “Careers Compass” that shows the children the different routes they could take. Introducing the employability skills and attitudes they will need, in an age appropriate way.

Ideal for KS1 and KS2

The day consists of a carousel of short interactive activities for up to 10 pupils per session delivered by a range of different employers/specialists. Each session focuses on a different employment sector (e.g. Retail, Engineering, Technology, Professional Services, Public Services, Leisure). All activities have follow-up opportunities that can be integrated into the curriculum, showing the relevance of learning to the world of work.


GULLYfest is a collaborative project with Gulliver’s Kingdom which encourages primary aged children to learn and use Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills to design and build aspects of theme parks. It also introduces them to the huge variety of roles involved in running a theme park – from customer service, to maintenance and ride operators!

GULLYfest: Introduction to Leisure & Tourism

Ideal for KS1 and KS2

The programme includes:

  • A visit to Gulliver’s Valley Resort
  • An assembly hosted by the work-wise Foundation and Gulliver’s Kingdom employees
  • Day of building and presentations with a graduation ceremony

Introducing Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM)

Get up to Speed with STEM

Ideal for all age groups, from KS1 to Further and Higher Education.
An all-day event held at Magna Science Adventure Centre with local employers exhibiting how their industry relates to the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The event gives young people the chance to be inspired and learn more about their local industry and understand the opportunities available to them by taking part in hands-on activities and speaking to exhibitors.

STEAM: Our Wonderful World

Ideal for KS1 and KS2
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths (STEAM) are all around us and impact daily on our lives. This programme is designed to introduce children to our wonderful world and how everything is impacted on by STEAM. It cuts across all aspects of the curriculum. Designed in collaboration with individual schools this is a way of embedding STEAM in all aspects of learning in a fun and interactive way.

STEMfest: Getting Hands-on

Ideal for all age groups, from KS1 to Further and Higher Education
A series of interactive Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) activities/challenges and employability related activities delivered as a carousel of opportunities. Designed and delivered in an age appropriate way by employers, supported by the work-wise Foundation. Involves hands on STEM problem solving activities and challenges related to industry, plus interactive Q&A sessions with apprentices, employees/employers exploring job roles and skills – centred around the theme of ‘Walk in my Shoes’.


What Employers Want

Ideal for KS3 through to Further Education

The day concludes with self-reflection, self-assessment, and personal development planning. A fantastic initiative to prepare you for applying for jobs and interviews which will also look great on your CV.

Work-Wise Summer Academy

A full day conference where participants attend as business delegates and are supported by business leaders who facilitate the day’s activities. These include:

  • Contracts of employment
  • Assessment centre tasks
  • Presentations
  • Applying for jobs (including a CV surgery, job applications/letters, telephone, and face-to-face interviews)

Skills That Matter

Ideal for all age groups, from KS1 to Further and Higher Education
A full day of activity introducing the skills, attributes and knowledge required for the world of work.
Work-Wise Summer Academy

The day involves experiencing a range of interactive sessions on industry-related themes including:

  • Problem solving
  • First impressions
  • Visual impact
  • Interview skills
  • Online safety and employment
  • Teamwork
  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • Digital skills for employment
  • Enterprise and entrepreneurship

This day will give you the basic key skills to prepare you for employment.

Employability Academy

Ideal for KS3 through to Further Education

Our Employability Academy programme is aimed at young people looking to broaden their understanding of the world of work that awaits them after education. Each programme is four days long held during the summer holiday allowing attendees to enhance their knowledge by getting practical experience working on a project supported by local employers.

This is also available to be delivered virtually.

Work-Wise Summer Academy

Each event is designed on a bespoke basis for every group but typically follows the following programme:

  • Day 1: Broadening Horizons – An introduction to industry and the world of work
  • Day 2: A day in Industry – A tour of a local company with practical activities and employers introducing different aspects of how businesses operate
  • Day 3: Make, Create & Innovate – A hands-on team challenge to incorporate the skills discovered on days 1 and 2, including team building and leadership challenges delivered by the Army
  • Day 4: What Employers Want & Graduation – Supported by representatives of local businesses who spend time discussing their roles and help ready our attendees for the world of work, this includes presentations and mock interviews. Programme finishes with a graduation ceremony for our participants and their families.

Our Employability Academy programme also gives you the opportunity to receive 1-1 help with you CV and interview preparation.

Back to the Future: Teambuilding for Employment

Ideal for KS3 and KS4
Introducing Students to the history and heritage around Engineering and Manufacturing in the region. Discovering what the industry looks like today and what the future could be. Then taking all this learning and working in a team to deliver a creative showcase to an invited audience telling this story.

Work Experience

Ideal for KS4 and KS5

We can help your students find work experience in the Sheffield City Region within Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) sectors. Work experience set up by us will include:

  • Risk assessments
  • Handbook to be completed during the placement

Work experience can be invaluable in helping you to decide your future career path, build confidence and add vital experience to your CV to help you stand out from the competition.

Indispensable Me

Ideal for Further and Higher Education
A full day training course designed to help newly recruited young people develop essential employability skills; includes understanding self and others, communication skills, team building, importance of values and attributes for work. Follow on session to enhance skills, exploring and developing attributes to become Indispensable and invaluable employees. Self-assessment, reflection, action planning, enhanced communication, team building are all included giving your employees skills that will benefit them long-term.
