Launch of Kickstart Scheme Support Programme

The new government Kickstart scheme has been launched with incentives for employers to create thousands of high-quality paid work experience/job opportunities for young people (aged 16-24). Funding available for each job will cover the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus the associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions for 6 months. There will also be funding available of up to £1,500 to support young people to develop new skills and to help them move into sustained employment after they have completed their Kickstart funded job. Support and training will be delivered through The Work-wise Foundation.

The Work-wise Foundation are offering management, support and administration as part of their ongoing Apprentice Support Scheme. Work-wise will co-ordinate and facilitate a bid for 30 and above places, helping smaller businesses access this scheme. The Work-wise Foundation will:

  • Co-ordinate and manage the employer group and submit the group application(s)
  • Provide guidance on preparation of Job Descriptions and assist with the selection process and interviews
  • Provide “Be Prepared” Training for employers including: Guidance on working with young people, safeguarding, Health and Safety/Risk Assessment, any special needs support and mentor support (working with specialist partners)
  • “Indispensable Me” Induction Training for new starters covering behaviours at work, expectations and understanding the company and your role.
  • Employability Training Sessions throughout the placements to young people to develop their confidence and skills. Support in preparing CVs and follow on applications/interviews.
