The Work-wise Foundation are launching a new Innovation Challenge for 2021 offered exclusively to Rotherham Secondary Schools.
Bringing together the worlds of Technology (CityFibre), Health and Fitness (Rotherham Titans RUFC), design and innovation (AND Digital) you are invited to enter teams of students to participate in a Challenge to design an App for Rotherham to encourage Fitness and Healthy eating. The winning design will be developed into an App to be rolled out across Rotherham.
CityFibre is a driving force in the UK telecoms industry, bringing transformational digital change. It is investing £4 billion across the country to bring comprehensive full fibre access to up to 100 towns and cities, targeting some eight million premises or 30 percent of the country’s homes. CityFibre is also providing full fibre for businesses, public assets and to support 5G rollouts across the country and is helping to create some 10,000 jobs along the way.
Rotherham is set to become one of the most digitally connected town’s in the world, having received a £29m investment for the project, and will enhance Rotherham’s standing as a globally competitive digital location. Rotherham has an ambitious investment and growth plan, setting out to achieve a number of goals by 2025. If Rotherham is to meet its forward thinking objectives, access to a modern, fit for purpose digital infrastructure is vital.
CityFibre want to raise awareness of this new digital infrastructure with young people, how it will shape their lives and the career opportunities that it will bring.
Rotherham Titans RUFC works alongside the The Titans Community Foundation to promote rugby, health and fitness to young people within the Rotherham community. Through working with primary schools it has become clear that many children need a personalised approach to diet, health and fitness to combat obesity and prevent other health issues.
AND Digital works with organisations to accelerate their digital delivery – from defining digital strategies to building digital products and stronger teams.
Many children, especially in the more deprived areas of Rotherham, have a limited diet, with little awareness of the health benefits of fresh fruit and vegetables. These children also have limited access to extra-curricular activities, and do not get the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity.
Together, The Work-wise Foundation, CityFibre and Rotherham Titans RUFC hope to engage and inspire young people within Rotherham and create a new and exciting App that will help future generations make healthy lifestyle decisions.
The Challenge runs from January to March 2021 and will be showcased and judged at the first Virtual Get up to Speed with STEM event 22nd-26th March 2021.
